Dr. Matthew D’Urso is a clinical psychologist licensed in New Jersey and New York and a NJ certified school psychologist specializing in the therapeutic treatment of children and adolescents suffering from behavioral and mood difficulties secondary to child maltreatment.
In his current practice, Dr. D’Urso also provides comprehensive forensic evaluations in the context of child maltreatment and for a variety of purposes, including the assessment of trauma and victimization and risk of violent or sexual offending behaviors. Additionally, Dr. D’Urso conducts assessments of cognitive ability and academic achievement, personality testing, and psycho-educational and neuropsychological assessments of children and adolescents for the purpose of diagnosis and treatment of suspected mental health disorders as well as learning disabilities.
Dr. D’Urso received his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame and his Doctorate in School Psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University. Following a clinical internship with the Department of Psychiatry at Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center (NY), Dr. D’Urso completed a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Child and Adolescent Trauma at the C.A.R.E.S. Institute at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ). He has provided clinical services in a number of treatment facilities, including the Morrisania Diagnostic and Treatment Center (NY) and the adult inpatient forensic service at Bellevue Hospital Center.
For three years, Dr. D’Urso served as a staff psychologist at the Metro-Regional Diagnostic and Treatment Center (RDTC) of Newark Beth Israel Medical Center (NBIMC) where he conducted mental health screenings of children and adolescents entering foster care or other out-of-home placements. Trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Combined Parent-Child Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CPC-CBT), Dr. D’Urso also provided individual and group treatment with families and children who were victims of child sexual and physical abuse as well as other traumas.
Dr. D’Urso has been in private practice since 2010, and in 2013 he became the Dean of Guidance for Delbarton School in Morristown, NJ.
